Battle Magic
What is it Magic?
It is a card game based loosely on several fantasy role-playing game formats. The game is produced by Wizards of Coast, Inc. Magic is both a card game and card collection/trading game. The card graphics are exceptional and the game play is actually quite simple once you get the hang of it.
Reason For Alternate Rules
(Battle Magic):I believe a role-playing game requires flexiblity. It is my opinion that the standard method of play is not flexible enough and does not allow the player a great deal of innovation.
Battle Magic Rules:
Summary:
Players decide who goes first The first player then "calls" the game, then chooses to use basic Magic rules or Combat Magic rules and chooses to use regular card draw or multiple card draw rules Summary Description:1. Players decide who goes first (coin flip, etc.).
2. The first player then "calls" the game.
The following are Battle Magic rules:
a. Basic Magic. No rule changes.
b. Combat Magic:
Rules:c. No Starter Hand:- Every monster has permanent hit points. These hit points are identified by "tap stones," counters, etc. A creature gives and receives damage whenever it is in play. This damage can only be regenerated via spells. A monster dies when all hit points are taken away.
* No more automatic regeneration every turn. This gives the player a sense of actually using his/her armies a'la real role-playing games. - All damage by spells are directed at creatures first. Damage is directed at players only if there are no creatures on the opposing players side, or the opposing player decides not to defend with his/her creatures.
* No more destroying a player with some hokey spell. Why play with creatures at all if you can have a (4) 5 point damage lightning bolts and (4) fireballs! That's not a role-playing game at all, that's simply an example of, he who hath the most money can buy the best damage spells...
- Rules:The first player calls from two to four card draw every turn for the remainder of the game. This keeps the cards and creatures continually flowing and can radically change the direction of play every couple turns.
* In observing people play, I have noticed that the seven card draw at the beginning of the game can create a great deal of frustration for players who just happen not to draw their best cards in the first few turns. As a result, I've seen players become apathetic after only five minutes and just plain give up in frustration.
My philosophy: Life should never get boring-- If a game gets boring it's not a game!
